Job Description:
Principal Sustaining Engineer
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The principal engineer will be a key member of the Nellcor sustaining
engineering team working in the support of Nellcor pulse oximetry
products. The principal engineer will work in all aspects of the product
support and providing input to the Nellcor design process. This includes
providing technical support to our OEM customers, and troubleshooting
issues on products currently being manufactured. Some project management
will be required for more extensive product design modifications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Perform hardware support and sustaining activities for released Nellcor
Oximetry products.
2. Provide input to development activities for new products or upgrades to
existing products.
3. Perform validation and verification testing by developing test plans
and procedures followed by execution of the tests.
4. Perform documentation activities, including design validation, hazard
and risk analysis, reviews of designs and tests.
5. Engineer needs to work well in a team and whose work product reflects
high professional standards.
6. Provide input to the Nellcor product design process in accordance with
defined development procedures.
7. Provide technical support to our OEM customers on hardware issues.
8. Troubleshoot issues on products currently being manufactured
9. Develop product verification tools and procedures for use in the
Sustaining Engineering Department.
10. Will require working with development engineers in the troubleshooting
of products.
11. Lead projects in design modification/enhancement with a multi-
disciplinary project team.
12. Verify the design and participate actively in validation planning and
testing.
13. Analyze product designs to expose potential failures and develop ways
to mitigate against those potential failures.
DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Present project status updates to management and sustaining engineering
team, as required.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education: * BSEE or equivalent and 5+ years in product development and/or
project management.
Experience: * 7+ years in medical device design or manufacturing industry
with 5+ years in manufacturing engineering / support
Preferred Skills/Qualifications:
•Candidate should be knowledgeable and have experience in electronic
engineering processes and product life-cycle in general. •Extensive
experience in project management is desired.
•Experience in hardware/software interfacing and design issues required.
•Medical instrument development experiences a plus
